We’ve reduced the alcohol, calories, and hops in Hoptical Illusion to make it a more sessionable ale.

Today we are proud to announce the official release of the newly revamped Hoptical Illusion. Inspired by the recent success of the Surge Protector Sandy Relief Ale as a session IPA and anticipating the trend toward brews that are less hop-forward and more accessible, we believe this updated version will appeal to a greater number of beer drinkers.

By eliminating the signature hop-back process and significantly reducing the malt bill, the improved Hoptical Illusion’s ABV has been reduced to 2.3% from 6.8% and boasts just 54 calories and 7 IBUs per 12-ounce serving.

“We think this is a real win for everyone. We’re sure our current Hoptical Illusion fans will enjoy this superior iteration and, ultimately, the shift away from the hoppy profile will help us attract a whole new crowd of drinkers who typically choose big beer brands,” – Brewmaster and Co-founder, Mark Burford.

“Excepting price, we’re reducing everything — hops, malt, alcohol content, calories – which, if you think about it, is really good for the environment. Less is more when it comes to sustainability.” – President, Pete Cotter

In order to avoid brand confusion among consumers, original Hoptical Illusion will no longer be available for purchase at retailers. Limited quantities are available until supplies run out in the Tasting Room, with a one-case per person limit.

Please hurry in Thursday to try the new and improved Hoptical Fifty Four and grab your last 6-packs of the old recipe.

Enjoy! — Mark & Pete

Or at least in this neck of the woods…

Saturday, April 13, Blue Point Brewing Company will host more than 30 breweries with 100+ casks for the 9th Annual Cask Ales Festival.

If you’re new to the scene, cask, or real, ale is essentially unfiltered, unpasteurized beer that is conditioned in and served directly from a cask (sometimes called a firkin), without the addition of nitrogen or carbon dioxide pressure. Festival attendees will be able to walk right up to casks and sample the freshest, highest quality beer they’ve ever tasted from some brewers that they may not even be familiar with. This event is so special to us because it gives craft beer fans the opportunity to sample beer in its most pure form and we’re able to raise a glass, or several, with fellow brewers from near and far!

The festival takes place rain or shine from 2-6PM under the tents in the brewery parking lot. Tickets are $50 ($15 for designated drivers) when you buy them in the tasting room or online here with an additional fee.

This event also supports Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank with a can drop at the brewery on the day of the event and everyone is encouraged to bring any non-perishable food to donate. Only those 21 and over with valid photo ID will be admitted to the event. No children or pets will be permitted. There will be no parking at the brewery. Please park in the train station, Municipal or County lots, or better yet, take the train.

Stay tuned for food and entertainment details, a list of breweries who will be attending and some of the specialty casks we’re preparing!

We hope to see you at the festival…cheers!

And it’s not for the faint of heart. Or tongue.

Just for the special tasting room debut, we’ve also put a Citra and Simcoe dry-hopped cask up. Stock up on some bombers for the Super Bowl and sample the cask and draft versions next to each other!

Since our very first batch, we set out to craft a big ale that would pack a punch but still leave folks coming back for more. Brewed only in small batches from the finest European malts and American hops, the huge, earthy dry hop aroma of No Apologies finishes with a pleasing caramel sweetness. Five hop varieties round out this fully balanced brew that will tantalize your taste buds and warm your soul.

If you happen to find a lot of bittering hops to be offensive, well, we offer No Apologies!

Availability: Very Limited (get it while you can)
1.091 OG (Original Gravity)
93 IBU (International Bitterness Unit)
